Moving Mipits

L-album Wainscot - the best of last night's catch that included Large and Lesser Yellow Underwing, Square-spot and Vine's Rustic, Setaceous Hebrew Character, Small Square-spot, Willow Beauty, Brimstone Moth, Garden Carpet, Double-striped and Lime-speck Pug, Small Dusty Wave, September Thorn, Angle Shades, Elbow-stripe Grass-veneer and Rush Veneer.

Nick and I did Orcombe Point first thing this morning. The skies were clear and there were a few bits and pieces overhead, including my first Meadow Pipits of the autumn, but not much grounded. We recorded 2 Common Sandpipers and 2 Turnstones on Maer Rocks, 12+ Grey Wagtails, 6 Wheatears, 5+ 'Alba' wagtails, 8+ Chiffchaffs, 1 Willow Warbler, c25+ Meadow Pipits, 7+ Yellow Wagtails, 7+ Tree Pipits, c70+ Swallows, 6+ House Martins, 1+ Sand Martin and c50+ Hirundine sp.
I was home for breakfast in the garden before 9am and, with the scope trained on the river, recorded 26 Pale-bellied Brent Geese, 35+ Knot, 2 Bar-tailed Godwit and good numbers of Wigeon. A light trickle of Meadow Pipits was still moving overhead and small numbers of Swallows were heading north upriver. An adult Mediterranean Gull flew over the house and a Hobby was picked up over Halsdon Farm carrying what I assume was a hirundine.
