Gone Quiet

willow warbler

Very little happening on the bird front. On 30/7 - Maer Rocks - 1 little egret, 2+ sanderling, 2 ringed plover, 5 common sandpiper and 12+ common scoter. On Orcombe Point there were 2 blackcap, 6 willow warbler, 1 phyllosc sp, 3 whitethroat, 9 house martin, 1 swallow and, most unusually, 1 reed bunting. Off Mudbank - 7+ mediterranean gull.
On 31/7 - 1 turnstone and 1 black-tailed godwit off Maer Rocks, 2 willow warbler and 3 whitethroat on Orcombe.
This morning just 3 phyllosc sp, 1 chiffchaff, 7 whitethroat, 2 common tern and 1 juv mediterranean gull. The blackcaps, whitethroats and chiffchaff are almost certainly just this year's breeders but the willow warblers and reed bunting are certainly passing through.
Finally - a big thank you to Paul Brimacombe for getting in touch about the Great White Egret on July 6th. It was ringed in Lac De Grand-Lieu in Loire Atlantique - see the 'comments' below for the specific details from Paul.

Carcina Quercana - a common but smart little micro moth with very long antennae.

Small White

Clouded Yellow - one of two in the dung field yesterday afternoon.
