Some Heathland Lepidoptera

Another early morning spell, watching the sea from the raised beach huts, produced 4 great northern diver, 1 'commic' tern, 12 sandwich tern, 1 grey plover and a first-summer yellow-legged gull. Otherwise, as might be expected at this time of year, it has been very quiet. I've walked the dog on the Commons a couple times this weekend and photographed a few moths and butterflies in the process

July/Lead Belle - several around at the moment

common heath - male - note the feathered antennae

common heath - female - a very common species on the heaths

small heath - quite a few of these on the wing at the moment

green hairstreak - my favourite butterfly

common blue - male - very much past its best

meadow brown - freshly emerged

five-spot burnett
